President Donald Trump will receive an intelligence briefing around midday at the White House. He is expected to remain in Washington, D.C. after two days of travel to the Midwest and Southwestern U.S.
One of the pressing issues the president and his administration faces is the soon-to-expire arms embargo on the importing and exporting of conventional weapons by Iran. In spite of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s tour through central Europe last week, of the nations on the UN Security Council only the Dominican Republic voted for extending the embargo on Iran that will end in mid-October.
The president’s administration is now considering the “snapback” provision, which would reinstate the heavy sanctions that were stayed by the arms embargo agreement when it was implemented 13 years ago. This provision would go beyond prohibiting arm deals with Iran, including as well the financial and oil sectors in the restrictions.
Secretary Pompeo said, “We will continue to work to ensure that the theocratic terror regime does not have the freedom to purchase and sell weapons that threaten the heart of Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.”

- For discernment for the president and his advisors as current intelligence information is evaluated.
- For the State Department and Secretary Pompeo as they continue diplomatic efforts with foreign leaders.
- For peace in the Middle East.
