He Provides

Everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?  – John 11:26

When God reveals Himself to someone in Scripture, He typically ties the name Jehovah to another name that reveals something deeper about His character. He often does this when people are going through difficult situations to reveal Himself as their source of help. For example, Jehovah Jireh, which means “the Lord will provide,” was proven to Abraham when He asked him to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Abraham loved his son and needed him to fulfill the Lord’s promise to make a great nation. So, he had to trust Him even though His command seemed to go against that promise. In reality, God wanted to see who meant more to Abraham, Him or Isaac, so He put him in a situation that only He could fix. Yet God had Abraham’s solution – a ram – climbing up the mountain on the other side at precisely the right time. And as a result of His providential provision, Abraham named the place Jehovah Jireh, the Lord Will Provide.

Before the creation of the Earth, your Heavenly Father already knew He would provide the perfect Lamb who would willingly go to the cross on your behalf. Christ is God’s ultimate gift so that you may have eternal life. So whatever you are holding onto tightly, let it go in order to experience Jehovah Jireh. And remember that sometimes He will allow you to experience a larger challenge because He wants to unveil a greater portion of Himself to you, even if it doesn’t make sense at the time. Pray that America’s leaders lay their own agendas on God’s altar and follow Him.

And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.

When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” 13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

15 And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven 16 and said, “By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, 18 and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”

And again Isaiah says,

“The root of Jesse will come,
    even he who arises to rule the Gentiles;
in him will the Gentiles hope.”

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
