Don’t lose sight of what is important to God.
Ephesians 4:1,3 – Walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called…eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit on the bond of peace.
There is a chapter in Charles Colson’s book The Body titled “Extending the Right Fist of Fellowship.” Ultimately, he issues a reminder on the importance of relationships and of caring for unity within the fellowship of believers.
Real people are challenged when it comes to maintaining good relationships. This happens inside families, neighborhoods, and churches. Among Christians in politics…is that another question? Jesus expects that His followers will be “eager” to maintain that unity and along with it a bond of peace. Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “Jesus Christ alone is our unity. He is our peace. Through him alone do we have access to one another, joy in one another, and fellowship with one another.”
A recent report said that more than 8 in 10 members of Congress claim faith in Jesus Christ. Yet, like any of us, they are susceptible to losing track of what is the most important thing to God. That is summed up in the great commandment, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27). For all who follow Christ, pray that they would seek wise counsel from God’s Word, then debate and legislate according to His precepts.
Pray With Us
Dear Lord, thank You that there are people in government who believe Your truth. As they work through their terms in office and engage in re-election campaigns, send them Your wisdom. Furnish them with godly counselors. Guide them into wise and right decisions for America, decisions that would result in bringing glory to Your Name. Help me to keep my relationships right, bringing my actions in line with what is true and right and filled with love for You and others. I pray in Jesus Name,
Amen.
