HHS announces initiative for rapid tests.
At President Trump’s behest, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is authorizing the distribution of rapid point-of-care tests, approved by the FDA, to nursing homes across the nation. Areas that are hotspots for the virus or those regions with especially vulnerable seniors will be the first recipients.
“Access to rapid point-of-care testing in nursing homes will further protect our Nation’s most vulnerable patients,” said Admiral Brett P. Giroir, M.D., the assistant secretary for HHS. “We now have the ability to provide more testing faster. This could not have been possible without the scientific investments made by these companies, advanced regulatory science from the FDA and other investments by the Federal government.”
The initiative is a large-scale, one-time procurement of devices and tests to improve the testing capacity and response time for residents and staff in care facilities. Distribution of the tests and testing devices will begin next week.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the Department of Health and Human Services as they seek to protect the vulnerable population of older adults.
- For the president as he promotes preventative measures to stem the pandemic spread.
- For healing for those who are sick from the virus.
