On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased. – Psalm 138:3
Unanswered calls – how do you handle them? Do you call again, do you text, should you reach out in another way? It can feel awkward when you are desiring someone’s attention and can’t get it.
One of the most comforting promises of God is that He is there for you “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8). However, many of His followers will tell you about a time when they’ve reached out and found silence in response. What is happening when God seems to be quiet?
In reality God HAS already answered your prayer in Christ, His work reconciled you to God and nothing, not even death, can separate you from Him. But that is not exactly the kind of understanding a person in pain is looking for. When your soul aches from the stress of life and you are breathless hoping to hear from Heaven, don’t misunderstand God’s silence. Far from ignoring you, He is likely saying, “hold on, loved one, … and wait.”
Being on hold is difficult. But as brutal as it might feel, many times God uses “wait” to train His heavy lifters. Like a day at the gym, when your muscles are quaking and shaking, that is when they are actually developing. Spiritually speaking “waiting” is like holding the dumbbell an extra thirty seconds.
Are you training in the “wait” room today? Your Father is helping you build a bold faith that will point many to Christ. Pray for faithful leaders in America to join you in strengthening their hold on Christ.
Today’s Verse: Psalm 138:3
On the day I called, you answered me;
my strength of soul you increased.

7 Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. 8 You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. 9 Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door. 10 As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
