Amount of checks and who will get them is subject of discussion.
White House officials and President Trump have signaled support for another cash payment to Americans. What Congress must determine is how much money Americans may receive and who is eligible for the payment.
Lawmakers in the House already included a second round of checks to Americans in legislation passed in May. The HEROES Act includes direct payment of up to $1,200 for some Americans. Members of the Senate initially rejected the House’s proposal, but some have recently expressed support for a second cash infusion.
Some lawmakers will return July 20 from a two-week break to discuss the next relief bill. Congress will then have two weeks to hash out a deal before the House begins its recess August 3. Senate Majority Leader McConnell says he wants to finish the package before August.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that if lawmakers sign off on another payment, the federal government would be able to get the money out “very, very quickly.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For members of Congress to be able to come together and determine the extent of another relief package.
- For Americans who continue to find themselves out of work due to the coronavirus.
