Since we have such a hope, we are very bold. – 2 Corinthians 3:12
What are you afraid of these days? According to mental health professionals, many adults are fearful right now and alarm is not an unreasonable response to the nightly news! Anxiety comes from the Latin word “angustia” meaning “narrowness.” An overly anxious person is likely focused on the fine details in a situation, possibly missing a bigger picture.
For example, sin has temporarily captured God’s creation and the world is at odds with Him until all things are restored. Those focusing on what is broken here on Earth will find their minds filled with the horrific evidence of that truth. But Jesus offers another way. When angelic beings announced His birth, they referred to him as “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Those willing to look to Christ as Savior and following Him through life can enjoy the fruits of His peacefulness in both heart and mind, even amidst a world in chaos.
The hope of Jesus is not based on positive thinking, it is grounded on the reality of His sufficient strength. “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence” (2 Peter 1:3). If you are a follower of Christ today, then you have what you need to navigate challenging days with assurance. Pray for those serving in halls of government, churches, and homes across America; to look past their fears and place their trust in heaven’s Prince, Jesus Christ, finding comfort and confidence in Him.
