Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
It has often been said that there is a secret message in today’s verse. For most people, a casual reading would have you believe that it is all about the doing of things. But the secret is that it isn’t the doing, it’s the Who-ing. Who you turn to when you need that added strength, or when you are devastated by your circumstances, low down because of a great loss, or heavy with pain, is the message behind this verse in Philippians.
In its context, the Apostle Paul claims that he has learned “in whatever situation I am to be content.” He adds, “I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.” Did you see it? The secret? Through the many times of trial and tribulation he faced, the apostle knew the secret Source of contentment—through his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
If you are feeling down, overwhelmed, confused…rely today on that secret God has given you: Jesus, Your Source.
Pray With Us
Heavenly Father, thank You for all of the many provisions You have given me. I am truly blessed, despite everything around me. Thank You for being the secret place that I can turn to when I’m feeling especially needy. Teach me to know that contentment because I confess I sometimes still struggle with being anxious. Remind me from your Word, again and again, to cast my cares on You. You are so good, and I love You, Lord.
Amen.
