Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble. – Psalm 119:165
Ocean-going cruise ships seem to glide through the water with a minimum of the rolling and shifting that used to be the cause of mal de mer for many passengers. Whatever the wind or the waves, the ships’ stabilizers keep motion to a minimum. Whether your life is like a cruise on a big ship or you are being tossed about by high waves and winds, God has provided a trustworthy stabilizing safeguard for your life. Treasuring and loving His Word develops that stability.
As you hold your Bible in your hands, do you understand that you hold a great treasure? Across the centuries, people have laid down their lives to preserve the Scriptures. Many in China and elsewhere across the Earth today are imprisoned simply because they have a copy. Wycliffe translators have given their lives so others could find the sweetness of God’s Word in their own language.
Today’s verse says you have “great peace” when you love God’s Word… a transcendent peace that does not come from this world nor is it dependent on your circumstances, but on a Sovereign God alone who gives peace beyond all understanding (Philippians 4:7). When you love His Word, nothing can make you stumble… you have that stability the world longs to have. It’s yours!
Many in America are looking for something to guide their lives through the storms they face. They’ve lost sight of God and His standards. His Word is more constant than the North Star, more stabilizing than the great fins of a cruise ship. Handle it with care. Pray for the Chaplains of the Senate and House of Representatives to encourage stability among members of Congress by teaching them through their examples to love the Word of God.
