Today, President Donald Trump will meet with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The president will discuss global issues including the ongoing difficulties with the actions of Iran, China, and Venezuela.
Yesterday, the secretary announced the implementation of sanctions against Iranian shipping lines and an Iranian subsidiary based in Shanghai. Secretary Pompeo spoke of the way Iran has taken advantage of the international shipping system for illicit activities.
Secretary Pompeo also spoke with the foreign minister of Argentina yesterday. They discussed responses to the pandemic, economic developments in the region, and efforts to restore Venezuelan democracy.
In recent days, the secretary has denounced the Chinese Communist Party’s attempt to liken the American response to unrest and violence concerning racial injustice to the protests in Hong Kong and other Chinese regions that the CCP has harshly suppressed. Secretary Pompeo contrasted the consistent denial of human rights and freedom by China to the commitment of the U.S. to transparency, the rule of law, and unalienable human rights.
