Looking for ways to incentivize reopening phase.
President Trump and his senior advisers plan to meet this week to review options for the next coronavirus relief package. The meetings could be pushed back due to the focus of the White House on the demonstrations sparked by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
“We’ve been through the rescue phase and we’re now in the transitional reopening phase and I think, generally speaking, we’d like to move into a growth-phase for the future economy,” Wall Street Journal reports a senior adviser as saying.
The team has already put together proposals aimed at encouraging people to resume their normal lives, including taking vacations. The scope of their package will not be completed until next month, and will depend on the success of reopening efforts and whether economic conditions generally improve.
Meanwhile, President Trump is expected to review unemployment insurance, and is discussing the possibility of reducing payments to $250-$300 a week during the second half of the year in order to encourage people to go back to work.
A $3 trillion package proposed by the House of Representatives was considered “dead on arrival” by the White House.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump and his domestic and financial advisers as they discuss additional stimulus relating to the coronavirus shutdowns.
- For President Trump to be wise and discerning with respect to additional actions regarding the protests and demonstrations.
