Two nuclear officials in Iran’s nuclear development program are the recipients.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo imposed sanctions this past week on two Iranian nuclear officials who have begun development on the use of centrifuges in order to enrich uranium, an essential component for nuclear fission and fusion. Secretary Pompeo also said that waivers would be revoked for work at two out of three plants that had previously been permitted to operate.
After the withdrawal of the United States from the Iranian nuclear deal in 2018, Iran increased enrichment of uranium in further violation of the agreement it had with world powers. On Friday, the official Iranian response cited the sanctions as a “hostile attitude” toward Iranian scientists by the U.S., and declared that the sanctions would make them “determined to continue their nonstop efforts more than before.”
