Legislation removed from House Floor as a result.
Following bipartisan support in the House of Representatives to begin negotiations to extend FBI surveillance powers, President Trump vocally came out against the bill on Thursday. The president tweeted that the bill “would just perpetuate the abuse that produced the Greatest Political Crime In the History of the U.S., the Russian Witch-Hunt.” As a result of the planned Veto, lawmakers have removed the legislation from the floor.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated that since the House does not have a two-thirds veto-proof majority, there was little reason to continue pushing the bill forward. House minority leader Kevin McCarthy who had earlier supported the bill stated that Congress ought to “take a pause,” following the president’s remarks. There is no planned date at this time to review the FBI’s surveillance powers.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For God to lead the president on the best laws to pass in the future.
- That the House of Representatives would work together to pass helpful surveillance legislation.
- That God would use the FBI to protect the rights of Americans.
