Wait on the Lord

God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day. – Psalm 7:11

In Exodus 32, God’s anger burned against the Israelites and He told Moses to step aside while He destroyed Israel and raised up a people from Moses. Moses interceded, reasoning on behalf of God’s reputation. Did He want people to think He brought the people out of Israel to destroy them? God relented. When Moses saw for himself the people worshipping the gold calf they had made, he forced Israelites to drink melted calf water and sent the Levites out to slay many of their people.

Today, America’s sins are many. God calls believers to intercede for America as Moses interceded for Israel. In this case, though, sin has already been punished through the crucifixion of Christ. People need to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord; Savior—to receive forgiveness and a right standing with God; and Lord—putting God in control of their lives.

Sin can be defined as trying to bless yourself in your own way and timing, rather than allowing God to bless you in His way and timing. Think of the great blessings Israel missed out on because of their sin. In the same way, America misses out because of its sin. Pray for repentance in America and a great turning to Him. Pray that America will no longer try to receive good in its own way but receive the blessing of God in His way and timing. If only the Israelites would have waited for Moses to come down from the mountain! Pray that all of America, its leaders and citizens will learn to wait on the Lord.

and a God who feels indignation every day.

Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
