The Antidote

Being ignorant of the righteousness of God… they did not submit to God’s righteousness. – Romans 10:3

Deadly toxins like snake venom or botulinum cause one to take notice and only proceed with great caution. Yet many completely ignore one of the deadliest poisons known to mind, body and soul… spiritual ignorance.

Throughout Scripture, God is always merciful toward people unwittingly lacking knowledge. The Apostle Paul’s life is a picture of God’s response to those lost in darkness “…though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus” (1Timothy 1: 12-14). Truly, God’s grace for unbelievers is rich and deep, however those willfully choosing ignorance in the face of God’s invitation into relationship find something different. “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men … For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them” (Romans 1:18-19).

There is no excuse for rejecting God in light of an introduction to His Son Jesus.  The life, death, and resurrection of Christ is God’s simple plan for saving people from spiritual death and there is no human effort or work that can supplant it. Those choosing to reject rather than submit to God’s provision for salvation leave themselves without remedy.

Pray for leaders across America both in public service and private industry to abandon willful spiritual ignorance and embrace salvation through Jesus Christ. There is an antidote for spiritual death and God will rescue all who are willing.

Today’s Verse: Romans 10:3

For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
