All Scripture is breathed by God. – 2 Timothy 3:16
New studies reveal growing concern about the moral condition of the nation, even as many American adults admit they are uncertain about how to determine right from wrong. According to Barna research, 57 percent of American adults believe that knowing what is right or wrong is a matter of personal experience. Approximately 74 percent of millennials agree strongly or somewhat with the statement, “Whatever is right for your life or works best for you is the only truth you can know,” compared to only 38 percent of older adults.
While most American adults agree that culture plays some role in establishing moral norms, a majority also agrees “the Bible provides us with absolute moral truths which are the same for all people in all situations, without exception.” There is even broad agreement across age groups, which is surprising considering there is notable generational differences on other questions related to morality.
Proverbs 30:5 says, “Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.” Absolute truth has its source in the Lord. No human can think up or discover a new truth. Truth has always existed in His nature. He is the author of truth and you can always find that in His Word. Paul says Scripture is “inspired” and literally “breathed out by God.” Although the Creator spoke these words through human authors, the Bible can inform, inspire and guide you how to navigate your decisions based on His absolute truth. So as you read His Word, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal these truths to you. Pray that your leaders on Capitol Hill do the same.

Consider how I love your precepts!
Give me life according to your steadfast love.
160 The sum of your word is truth,
and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.
161 Princes persecute me without cause,
but my heart stands in awe of your words.
162 I rejoice at your word
like one who finds great spoil.
163 I hate and abhor falsehood,
but I love your law.
164 Seven times a day I praise you
for your righteous rules.
165 Great peace have those who love your law;
nothing can make them stumble.
166 I hope for your salvation, O Lord,
and I do your commandments.
167 My soul keeps your testimonies;
I love them exceedingly.
168 I keep your precepts and testimonies,
for all my ways are before you.
