Dramatic action totals $19 billion.
Speaking from the White House earlier in the week, President Trump announced a new round of stimulus funds totaling $19 billion for American farmers through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.
“We’re here this morning to announce dramatic action to support our nation’s farmers, ranchers and growers as we work to safely reopen America and it’s happening very fast, much faster and with much better numbers than anybody would have thought,” the president said. “I want to begin by expressing our profound gratitude to… farmers and ranchers across the country who have kept our nation fed and nourished as we have battled the invisible enemy.” He explained how broken supply chains from farms to restaurants have been shifted to food banks and kitchens.
Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said that, in addition to the direct support to farmers and ranchers, the Farmers to Families Food Box program is partnering with regional and local distributors whose workforces have been significantly impacted by the closure of many restaurants, hotels, and other food service entities. The USDA is purchasing $3 billion in fresh produce, dairy, and meat and delivering them to Americans in need.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For America’s farmers, ranchers and growers who will benefit from the additional stimulus being released by the government.
- For owners and operators of restaurants, hotels, and other food service entities, who have been shut down by the coronavirus, and are slowly beginning to reopen but with stifling regulations and guidelines.
