President Donald Trump will be delivering remarks supporting ranchers, farmers, and the food supply chain from the White House today.
In April, the U.S. Department of Agriculture implemented the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program, to support farmers experiencing losses due to the pandemic, that includes the fresh food box program.
Over a week ago, the president stated that the federal government would purchase meat, dairy, and produce. President Trump announced via Twitter, “The USA will be purchasing, from our Farmers, Ranchers & Specialty Crop Growers, 3 Billion Dollars worth of Dairy, Meat & Produce for Food Lines & Kitchens.” The Farmers to Families Food Box Program was begun just this weekend.
Food is being delivered from farms to distributors where it is loaded into family sized boxes to be sent to food banks and non-profit organizations. President Trump said of the program, “This was a way to ensure that what they produce could get to market and to those who need it. So, we were very excited to be able to fight for the American farmer and rancher, which is so in the heart of this president.”
