Cases deal with robocalls and Obamacare.
On Wednesday the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the cases of Little Sisters of the Poor v. Pennsylvania and Barr v. American Assn. of Political Consultants, Inc.
Little Sisters of the Poor v. Pennsylvania (consolidated with Trump v. Pennsylvania) is a case that seeks to address the question of the Affordable Care Act’s “birth-control mandate.” This mandate requires employers to provide female employees access to contraceptives through their insurance policies. The case challenges changes made by the Trump Administration granting religious exemptions to this rule.
Barr v. American Assn. of Political Consultants, Inc. is a case regarding the legality of robocalls. The 1991 Telephone Consumer Protection Act banned robocalls to cell phones. Later, a 2015 exception allowed the use of robocalls to collect government-backed debts. The question is if this exception violates the first amendment.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For God to give the justices of the court wisdom on the best course of action to take on these cases.
- For God to protect the justices from sickness in the midst of the pandemic.
- For the Court to have wisdom on the best future cases to hear.
