Psalm 90:17 – Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!
Psalm 90 was written by Moses. In it, you are encouraged to make every day count because life is brief. Living when things are “normal” is challenging enough; but in these days of the virus pandemic, when millions have been locked out of working, when incomes and savings are being depleted, there is a strong urge within most people to “get back to work,” to doing the productive things that occupied their days—and God honors that!
If Scripture, whenever something is repeated, it is worth noting. In today’s verse, Moses says that God will “establish” the work of your hands. His desire is to maximize your efforts, to aid you in making every day count. He will show you favor as you work.
While you think about the time you return to work, whether this week, next month, or whenever your opportunity presents itself, consider Who it is you belong to, and Who it is that gives you your next breath. Make your days and your work count for the kingdom of God. Be guided by Titus 2:7-8, “Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching [or whatever job you have] show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.”
Pray With Us
God, You are so good to me. Although I sometimes complain about my work, I know it is you, Lord, who established work in the first place when You instructed Adam to tend to the garden You had given him. Your Word has given me other reminders about the importance and value of work. Help me to show honor to You as an when I return to work, to be an exemplary employee or employer, and to set an example of living life according to Your plans for me. It is my joy to honor You. Bless me, O Father.
Amen.
