The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. – Psalm 34:7
How do you handle it when your two-day delivery is already a week late? It’s challenging isn’t it? If you let your mind wander, you can imagine the item is suddenly completely out of stock or the whole system has terminally failed. Most people agree, waiting is rarely enjoyable, but it IS part of the distribution process whether you’re expecting designer socks or a big check in the mail!
During Jesus’ day countless devout people were waiting for God’s Messiah to come. Yet history reveals many of the most devoted missed Him completely! How did that happen? The problem was they were looking for something far different from what God provided. They were expecting a King and could not imagine One born of common people in humble circumstances. They were longing for an oracle of God but could not recognize Him as an iterant Rabbi with a following of fisherman and tax collectors. They were prepared for a political regime and could not fathom a Kingdom of Spirit. Even the closest to Him struggled to comprehend their Savior brutally crucified, dead and buried. Those who were unwilling to let their faith extend past their circumstances, missed their deliverance.
It’s understandable to be perplexed at the chaos in the world today but don’t let it erode your faith. God’s comforting presence is abundant for those who will believe. Pray for many across America, especially in offices of leadership, that are paralyzed by dread and anxiety. Ask that they release themselves to God in faith and take receipt of His greatest gift – Jesus Christ, their Deliverer.

He said,
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
3 my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation,
my stronghold and my refuge,
my savior; you save me from violence.
4 I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.
5 “For the waves of death encompassed me,
the torrents of destruction assailed me;
6 the cords of Sheol entangled me;
the snares of death confronted me.
7 “In my distress I called upon the Lord;
to my God I called.
From his temple he heard my voice,
and my cry came to his ears.
