Chinese propaganda blames U.S. for virus pandemic.
A microbiologist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences said the United States could be an origin point of the coronavirus, until officials prove otherwise, saying it could have come from an American laboratory.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo struck out at Beijing again, saying the U.S. “strongly believed” the Chinese government had failed to report the outbreak of the virus in a timely manner, in breach of World Health Organization rules, and had failed to report human-to-human transmission of the virus “for a month until it was in every province inside China.” He also accused it of taking advantage of the pandemic to bully its neighbors.
The secretary repeated allegations that China was exploiting the world’s focus on the pandemic with “provocative behavior” to, among other things, erode the autonomy in Hong Kong, exert military pressure on Taiwan and coerce neighbors in the South China Sea.
“The United States strongly opposes China’s bullying and we hope other nations will hold them to account,” he said.
