Can you imagine living in ancient times where calibration of measuring devices was primitive and far from exact? If you were selling wool, for example, you must first figure out how much it weighs, and, without reliable measures, that assumed weight was variable depending on who you were dealing with!
In the world today, many believe man is the measure of all things, the center of the universe. That’s why when uncontrollable issues arise, their only hope is to look deeper inside their thoughts and feelings to determine what makes good common sense. When those efforts fail to bring peace, a downward spiral of anxiety can lead people to do unwise—even desperate—things.
The Biblical view is quite different. God sits at the center of the universe and genuine hope is discovered in the character of His perfection. When He is enthroned as righteous and deserving of glory, world events can be seen through His Sovereignty rather than raw fear. And you can trust “he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being” (Ephesians 3:16).
Can you offer a word of real hope to the people in your world today – yes, you can! Pray to God for opportunities to share your faith in His character… Holiness, Power, Justice, Goodness, Mercy, and Truth. Point as many as possible to the ultimate picture of His LOVE – Jesus Christ, His Son, the full and accurate measure of His grace.
