According to a report in the Harvard Business Review, family businesses are the cornerstone of most national economies. But a thriving family business can only be achieved by maintaining good governance, identifying and developing family talent, pursuing discipline, and preserving family goals. Most family businesses are built up around a single purpose—farming, automobile repair, making music, software development. They establish their goals accordingly, keeping their focus lest they should fail.
God, your Heavenly Father, has a family business also, and you are a part of it if you have received His Son, Jesus, as Savior. Moreover, within His family business, He has given to you a divine purpose—a spiritual calling, a higher instruction from God Himself. Your part in the family business is intended to be lived out in your life’s message. But how are you doing on the fundamentals of keeping a good business?
You know there is good governance in God’s family business. He Himself is the head, and He has given His Holy Spirit as your mentor and guide. Your responsibility for talent development is found in the time you spend with Him in His Word and in prayer, and that also takes personal discipline. God’s family business goal is bringing the knowledge of His Son and His Salvation to the whole world. Are those your goals, too? Just as a family business has many people doing different things, God’s family works the same way. He knows the plans He has for you. Talk it over with Him today if His plans aren’t clear.
Praise Him for the purposes He has for this world and its people. Intercede for those in government who follow Him to know and work their divinely-set family purpose today.
