1 Samuel 4:6 – Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving by many or by few.
It is tempting to ask, “Who’s in charge here?” Politicians jockey among themselves to be loudest; media boast that only they have the truth; even among physicians treating COVID-19 patients there is not always agreement.
Israel was beset upon by the Philistines. Nothing new—it had happened before and would happen again. But Jonathan, the son of King Saul, was ready for action, instructing his armor bearer to follow him. “It may be that the Lord will work for us,” he told him, following his statement with the confidence expressed in today’s verse.
Today, Jesus is saying, “Follow me.” The battle can be won, for the battle is His. In 2 Chronicles 20:15 one of the priests told another King, “Thus says the Lord to you, ‘Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God’s.’”
Shut out the loud voices, the scrambling media hordes, the people who would divide America, and listen instead to the Lord God. It is His battle. And Nothing can stop Him from winning it!
Pray With Us
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, God of Jonathan and Jehoshaphat, You are King above all the kings of the Earth. You have declared that things will be, and they are. Even though I see around me people who would put themselves above all others, You are the One who can bring them down. As You said in Isaiah 14:24, “As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand.” Have Your perfect way in America today, O God. Pull down evil strongholds so all may see Your glory. Set the people of your choosing to places of authority in this nation in the coming election. You are God, and there is no other. I worship You, Father,
Amen.
