Threats from online conspiracy theorists have increased over the last week.
The White House announced on Wednesday that Dr. Anthony Fauci would be receiving enhanced personal security from now on due to increasing threats against him. As the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, he has had a vital role in advising President Trump during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As an outspoken supporter of social distancing and stay at home orders, Dr. Fauci has attracted the disdain of online conspiracy theorists who have made increasing threats on his life. When asked about the growing threats he said, “There are things about it that are sometimes disturbing. But you just focus on the job you have to do, and just put all that stuff aside and try as best as possible not to pay attention to it.”
