No one immune, states Dr. Birx of the Task Force.
This morning Secretary Azar of HHS spoke about the restrictions of travel and the screening of those who have traveled abroad. Travel bans have been effective in delaying the spread of the virus, he said.
The matter of illegal migration has been very disruptive to American health. Numbers have been large, and there is no way America can treat sick migrants or even the border patrol agents who have been exposed to the virus from sick migrants. Our health care system is already overloaded and cannot accept health risks from abroad.
Dr. Deborah Birx reviewed the data from around the globe and around the U.S. There are signs that individuals under 19 and 20 are still carriers and some are getting sick. Mortality is higher among females in every age group globally, and many measures are being taken to protect people in nursing homes. She urged that no groups come together unless they are ten or fewer.
She concluded with the fact that no demographic is immune to the virus. “We don’t know if contagion levels are different among age groups. You are not immune, no matter your age,” she said. Underlying medical conditions are a strong component on the extremes of illness, but no one is immune.
Dr. Anthony Fauci said keeping further infection from entering the country has been successful as it relates to travel restrictions from China and Europe. But now the U.S. must enforce cross-border migration.
He also credited Governor Cuomo and his orders for people to work from home. Dr. Fauci said that many areas are not following the guidelines as strongly as they should. “Please,” he urged all Americans, “cooperate with government guidelines wherever you are.”
