Psalm 50:15 – Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.
How can you be so calm at a time like this? Don’t you see what is going on? People are sick; some are dying; whole countries have shut themselves down. The circumstances in America are so dire that the president even called it a national emergency. What has you so calm?
Sometimes their questions seem almost hostile.
At the time of Peter, believers in Rome were fearful. The Romans were after them. The Christians were being persecuted, even put to death. Yet Peter tells them not to be frightened. But every “do not fear” In the Bible is followed by what you should do instead. Hundreds of years earlier, the kings of Israel and Assyria threatened to invade Judah. Ahaz was dealing with the Assyrians behind the scenes. Isaiah said it would be an ungodly alliance and urged him to trust God for deliverance (Isaiah 8:11-15). Peter challenged the Roman believers to that same trust, the trust that God had historically shown again and again that he was worthy of.
You can have that same confidence today. Your approach to the crises and difficulties of life do not have to be those of others around you. You have hope. You do not need to fear. And because of that, you have an incredible testimony to share with the ones who question you, even those who are hostile toward you. The faith you show in God brings glory to Him. Now is the time for all Christians in America to pray for the deliverance that only God can bring; and that He will be praised by the whole world when they see what He has done!
