On Your Side

Putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. – Hebrews 2:8

Imagine being on a football team and the biggest, strongest, fastest player is on your side. That’s good news. How reassuring. The win is practically in the bag. In today’s verse, you see that Jesus is put in control of all things. And what a relief—He is on your side. (Romans 8:31)

You can be assured He is on Your side because Jesus died for you and He graciously gives you all things (Romans 8:32). Jesus intercedes for you (Romans 8:34). Your sin is no longer an issue (Romans 8:33). The price of your sin is paid in full (Ephesians 1:7). He left so the Spirit could be given (John 16:7). He welcomes you into his family (1 John 3:1). Nothing will ever separate you from God (Romans 8:35-39.) He calls you friend (John 15:15). All things work together for your good (Romans 8:28). He is the way to the Father (John 14:6). He offers eternal life (John 3:16). Whatever you ask in His name, He will do (John 14:13).

Jesus taught his disciples to pray for the Father’s will to be done (Matthew 6:10). For each individual, knowing His will begins with prayer. Pray for the Father’s will to be done on Earth, in America, in the upcoming elections, in your state, and in your family. With Jesus in control, He can be trusted. As you yield yourself to His will, your confidence will grow.  And you can say with the Psalmist, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (Psalm 118:6) .

Today’s Verse: Hebrews 2:8

“…Putting everything in subjection under his feet.”

Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him.

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
    we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
