Remarks given at Munich Security Conference
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo traveled to Europe over the weekend to attend the Munich Security Conference. During his speech, Secretary Pompeo said, “today I want to announce that through the International Development Finance Corporation, and with the support of our United States Congress, we intend to provide up to $1 billion in financing to Central and Eastern European countries of the Three Seas Initiative.”
This initiative seeks to build dialogue between Central and Eastern European nations on a variety of topics including energy production, defense spending, and trade. The Secretary also pushed for NATO member nations to contribute more to the treaty’s benchmark 2% of GDP on defense spending to better match America’s 3.42% spending.
