As the nation pauses to celebrate Independence Day this weekend, we will enjoy parties, parades and fireworks. In the midst of the joy and celebration it is so very important that we remember the sacrifices made by our forefathers as they envisioned a new form of government.
As each one inscribed his name on the Declaration of Independence, the mere act of signing could be considered treason against the British Crown.
As the Declaration was read across the country, it was received with wild acclaim by many and outright disdain by others. But its words captured the imagination enough to compel the colonists to endure a long and hard war for independence, once they were provoked by the Boston Massacre and the first shots at Lexington. Our Founders knew their cause was being helped by God Almighty, and their efforts at independence were in response to His arm interceding on their behalf.
The Presidential Prayer Team urges you to take time to appreciate the extraordinary freedoms and liberties we enjoy in this country as you celebrate the 4th of July. Remind those you love of the value of our freedom. And pray for our nation and her leaders. There are few things you can do that will be a better celebration of Independence Day…for that freedom to pray and worship when and how you wish is what makes the United States of America truly the best nation on Earth!
